SURREY - An "eye-opening" business engagement program founded by HRH Prince Charles hopes to harness the power of Surrey businesses in developing solutions to homelessness and its root causes including poverty and addiction.

The project's first partner is Coast Capital Savings Credit Union, and CEO Lloyd Craig will be meeting with leaders and clients from Surrey-based community organizations to discuss their challenges.

Titled, Seeing is Believing (SIB), the program's new Canadian cousin hopes to build on the accomplishments of an initiative that has engaged over 4000 business leaders in the U.K. alone.

Surrey is the first North American city to launch the program. Additional programs will launch next year in Toronto and Vancouver.

With growing consensus that sustainable solutions to social issues will require the power of business, SIB provides a unique and valuable approach in engaging executives and their companies as problem-solving members of the community.

"Seeing is Believing is about giving business leaders the opportunity to see with their own eyes, some of the issues facing Canadian communities," says Adine Mees, President & CEO of Canadian Business for Social Responsibility, the program's facilitator.

"When a company aligns its operations with community values, tangible competitive advantages can materialize, including enhanced license to operate, increased employee satisfaction and rehabilitated consumers and markets."
