WHAT: For the broad array of industries involved directly in the food supply chain, supporting the development of markets in countries with high malnourishment rates is a critical contribution to global economic growth and opportunity. There are also business incentives to provide more nutritious and healthy foods to the fast growing populations of consumers concerned with health and well-being.
As part of WRI’s Seventh Sustainable Enterprise Summit, representatives from the global food supply chain will address the business case for meeting the needs of the malnourished populations of the developing world and for providing healthy, nutritious foods to all markets.
WHEN: Thursday, March 18, 2004 from 9:45-11:00 am
WHERE: Watergate Hotel
2650 Virginia Avenue, NW
Washington, DC 20037
(800) 289-1555
WHO: Mario Rodenstein, senior coordinator of Nutritional Programs, Unilever Bestfoods
Chuck Slotkin, president, Nature’s Equity
Moderated by: Elizabeth Cook, director, Sustainable Enterprise Program, WRI
WHY: There is a growing divergence surrounding the issue of nourishment. Millions are malnourished amidst and abundance of food, while others are facing a rise in diabetes, obesity, heart disease and stroke. Economies and individuals cannot achieve their potential unless adequate nutrition is met.
Food corporations increasingly acknowledge the need for more nutritious and healthier foods, as well as the importance of increased consumer education. This session will address ways in which food corporations can address these needs through their business strategies.
WRI’s Seventh Sustainable Enterprise Summit will take place on March 17-18, 2004 at the Watergate Hotel in Washington, DC. “Today’s Challenges, Tomorrow’s Markets” will bring together innovative corporate leaders and sustainability experts to explore solutions that corporations can provide in response to today’s most pressing global challenges, and, in so doing, position themselves as the competitive enterprises of the future.
