NEWARK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 20, 2006--Saturday, October 7 will mark the 11th anniversary of Global Volunteer Day, Prudential Financial's premier event for giving back to communities. As part of this year's campaign, an expected 34,000 volunteers will complete about 900 projects in more than 15 countries.

"The integration of corporate citizenship into business strategy is not only the right thing to do, it's an expectation for all of Corporate America," said Arthur F. Ryan, chairman and CEO of Prudential Financial Inc. "Prudential's Global Volunteer Day represents a personal and effective way for our employees to demonstrate Prudential's and their own commitment to our neighbors."

Prudential's Global Volunteer Day, was first held on October 28, 1995. Since the program's inception, Prudential employees, along with their families, friends and business clients, have contributed 1.437 million hours of personal time to this annual effort. Based on the $18.05, hourly value for volunteer time set by the Points of Light Foundation, Prudential's employee efforts so far have exceeded a cumulative value of $25.9 million.

"Global Volunteer Day is our flagship volunteerism event, but equally as important, it is a celebration of the year round commitment that our employees make to support nonprofit organizations in communities where they live and work," said Gabriella Morris, vice president of Community Resources for Prudential and president of The Prudential Foundation. "Volunteers are the backbone of any community service initiative and we are proud of the talent, creativity and dedication of our employees. Together, they have made Global Volunteer Day an outstanding success since the program began in 1995."

Global Volunteer Day includes many forms of volunteer service, from rebuilding a home for an elderly neighbor to preparing meals at shelters to assisting those affected by natural disasters. As part of Global Volunteer Day, projects that meet selected criteria earn a $1,000 Challenge Grant provided by The Prudential Foundation to the partnering non-profit organization. To date, 1,654 projects have earned Challenge Grants totaling more than $1.654 million in grants given to partnering organizations.
