Washington, DC - Prudential Financial, Inc., (NYSE: Pru) one of the nation's leading providers of investment, securities, insurance, and banking products, has been named by the Child Welfare League of America (CWLA) as its Corporate Advocate of the Year. Prudential was selected for its outstanding commitment to children, youth, and families.

Shay Bilchik, CWLA's President & CEO, said, "We are extraordinarily pleased to present this award to Prudential Financial. By its support for numerous programs at the local level, in addition to its enduring support for national efforts on behalf of children, Prudential has demonstrated itself to be a model for others and is truly deserving of this year's Corporate Advocate of the Year Award."

The Child Welfare League of America commends Prudential for its compassion for children in need and their generous contributions to this cause. The award was presented to Prudential Financial at a dinner on March 6, 2003, during CWLA's national conference in Washington, DC. The annual dinner attracts over 1,000 child advocates, representatives from Capitol Hill, national child-serving organizations, foster parents, and others from across the country.

"The Prudential Foundation has partnered with CWLA to create the Prudential Positive Parenting Program allowing CWLA to deliver a parenting education curriculum, at no cost, to more than 25,000 child care, Head Start, and other early childhood programs. The Prudential Foundation's commitment has also allowed CWLA to train over 2,000 parent educators," said Mr. Bilchik. "In addition to the company's local support, Prudential has also provided local community support and on-going support for many CWLA initiatives, including support for children who have lost their parents to HIV/AIDS and for cultural competency training,"

"Prudential and its employees share a long-standing commitment to making a difference in the communities where we live and work, through both volunteerism and grants," said Gabriella Morris, vice president of Prudential Financial's Community Resources department. "We are truly honored to be recognized by CWLA for our efforts to improve the lives of children, families and communities. In acknowledging the great work CWLA provides to families, The Prudential Foundation recently recommitted our support with a 3-year $1.35 million grant to further help children face the challenges of the 21st century."

Criteria used by CWLA in the selection of the awardees include: corporate personnel and management policies that promote the well-being of its employees; corporate giving and philanthropic activities that benefit children, youth, and families outside the corporate family; corporate products that are not harmful to children and families or their physical and cultural environment; and a sustained pattern of national, state, or local activities that benefit children, families, and the community.

In nominating Prudential for this prestigious award, Peter Junker, Director of Foundation and Corporate Funding of Children Have Rights in Society (CHRIS) Homes, Inc. located in Atlanta, Georgia, cited the remarkable work performed by Prudential's volunteers who "work with their hands and their hearts." "Prudential's long-standing service to the children of CHRIS Homes has been 'rock solid'," said Kathy Colbenson, CEO of CHRIS Homes. "In this difficult economic climate, when many other corporations either withdrew or reduced their corporate giving, Prudential honored their commitment to at-risk children, putting their concern for children into action. In 2002, Prudential donated funds for our Group Homes Holiday, providing presents, decorations, and "Kid's Day Out" to the children in our 11 group homes; sponsored our basketball game to raise funds for Camp CHRIS, a nine week summer day camp for children and youth with severe emotional and related behavioral problems; and provided generous funds to CHRIS Homes."

In a second nomination, Terrence and Fay Zealand, Executive Directors of the AIDS Resource Foundation for Children, Inc. located in Newark, New Jersey, noted that "Prudential's support for children goes beyond the area of HIV/AIDS to touch all areas of children's health and education. Prudential's work should be recognized as a model for all corporations."
