DENVER - Johns Manville Formaldehyde-free building insulation was recently named to the top ten new green building products by BuildingGreen, Inc., publisher of the GreenSpec(R) Directory and Environmental Building News. The first-ever award recognizes the most exciting products added to the GreenSpec Directory during the past year. The GreenSpec Directory is the leading national directory of green building products and includes more than 1,650 products in the 2002 edition. The directory does not accept paid advertising and manufacturers may not purchase listings. Products are selected for inclusion based on criteria established by the editors of Environmental Building News, an independent source of information about environmentally responsible building design and construction. More information on the selection criteria can be found at http://www.BuildingGreen.com .

"Our goal in recognizing these products," said GreenSpec coeditor Alex Wilson in a press release announcing the GreenSpec Top-10 Products for 2002 winners, "is to call attention to the tremendous innovation and variety in green building products coming onto the market." In March 2002, Johns Manville became the first fiber glass insulation manufacturer to stop adding formaldehyde to building insulation as a binder and began using an acrylic binder that eliminates all binder-related emissions of formaldehyde during manufacturing. The acrylic binder also reduces concerns about formaldehyde in the indoor environment once installed. In addition, Johns Manville Formaldehyde-free insulation utilizes a minimum 25 percent recycled content (North American average) and provides overall resource efficiency.

"At Johns Manville, we are always looking for progressive new ways to support sustainable building practices," said Noel Camp, manager of health, safety and environment for the Global Insulation Division at Johns Manville. "We are honored to have our efforts at environmentally smart product development recognized by BuildingGreen, and we are very proud to be given the 2002 Top Ten Green Building Products Award."
