Volunteermatch Debuts Fresh Look And New Features To Make It Easier To Volunteer

ATLANTA, GA, - June 1, 2008 - Today, at the National Conference on Volunteering and Service, VolunteerMatch showed off upgrades to its Web service, located at www.volunteermatch.org, including a fresh design and important new features that make it easier for everyone to find a great place to volunteer.

At the center of the launch are improvements to VolunteerMatch's pioneering Search & Match engine used by prospective volunteers to find active opportunities. With the changes, users can now just enter their location and a few words describing what they want to do to initiate a search. On the results side, the new system reveals better information that users can filter by location, description, organization and date.

Some of the other new features in the release include:

  • Ratings & Reviews - The first nationwide platform for user-generated recommendations about specific volunteer programs, VolunteerMatch's Ratings & Reviews lead to better volunteer-nonprofit matches and stronger, more effective, volunteer programs.

  • RSS Subscriptions - Users can subscribe to RSS feeds to track volunteer opportunities by "cause" or by organization as new listings enter the VolunteerMatch system.

  • Search Maps - Drawing on Google's mapping API technology, VolunteerMatch Search Maps enable volunteers to navigate the results of a given search in a user-friendly, location-based environment.

"Our service has always been about removing barriers to volunteering," said Greg Baldwin, president of VolunteerMatch. "These new features will make it even easier for all of us to find meaningful opportunities to give our time."

Launched in 1998 during the dot-com boom, the VolunteerMatch network has generated 3,540,416 volunteer referrals to over 58,000 organizations, and now welcomes more than 270 recruiting organizations every week.
