FRANKFURT, GERMANY - Despite the international aviation industry's difficult economic situation, Fraport AG contributed about EUR 1.25 million from corporate operating results to its eco fund in 2002. The Fraport Eco Fund helps support a large number of nature and environmental projects in the Frankfurt/Rhine-Main region. Since 1997, Fraport has donated some EUR 13 million for projects aimed at protecting nature and the environment throughout the region. Fraport AG donated funds for 32 projects in 2002. Thus, the total number of projects supported in the Frankfurt Airport region has climbed to over 200 since the Fraport Eco Fund was launched. Along with traditional projects for nature and environmental protection, the Fraport Eco Fund supports environmental education and eco research. Specific projects that have benefited from the Fraport Eco Fund include: reconverting schoolyards into natural spaces, the creation of the Rhine-Main Regional Park system, expansion of a bird sanctuary, maintenance of wild fruit orchards, and initiatives to protect native bat and butterfly populations.
