Pathmark Lends A Helping Hand During Holiday Season

Results for each program equaled or surpassed those achieved last year.
The Company's Warm Coat Drive was conducted for a two-week period in November, with each of Pathmark's 144 stores participating, as well as its administrative and distribution facilities. Over 4,300 coats were collected and distributed to local nonprofit organizations. The Company's store in Middletown, NJ, was the company leader, collecting 350 coats for the drive.
Pathmark's Toy Drive was held during the first two weeks in December, at the same locations as the coat drive and generated a donation of 4,250 toys from Pathmark's customers and associates. Pathmark's store in Marple, PA, was the company leader, collecting over 300 toys for needy children.
In what has quickly become a very successful outreach effort, the "Adopt-A-Family for the Holiday" program completed its third year. Originating at the corporate office two years ago, this program has expanded to each Pathmark store where at least one family is adopted with the intention of providing some assistance to the less fortunate. This year 18 families, totaling 70 people were invited to the corporate cafeteria in Carteret, for a holiday meal prepared and served by Pathmark associates. In addition, each family received bags of holiday gifts donated by the office associates.
In 2001, this program was extended to all Pathmarks which was an overwhelming success. This year over 200 families were adopted throughout Pathmark's 4-state trade area. Families received gifts donated by company associates, as well as Pathmark gift certificates to be used for the purchase of a holiday meal.
"Pathmark is thankful for the opportunity to be able to assist those less fortunate," stated Pathmark's Director of Public Affairs, Rich Savner. "Our associates truly exemplify the spirit of the season and we sincerely appreciate their support as well as that from our loyal customers."
Pathmark is a regional supermarket company operating 144 stores in the New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia metropolitan areas and Delaware.
