Deloitte Honors Employee Volunteers -- Firm Contributes $50,000 to Non-Profits Selected by Award Recipients

NEW YORK -- Deloitte, one of the nation's leading professional services firms, today announced the 10 winners of its 2003 Community Impact Awards. The annual awards celebrate the firm’s long tradition of community service and recognize the outstanding dedication of the firm’s people to improving the quality of life in their communities. In honor of the winners’ commitment to their communities, Deloitte will contribute a total of $50,000 to charitable organizations of each winner’s choice – double the amount contributed last year.

Partners, employees and even retired partners, from across the firm were nominated for the awards, demonstrating both their passion for community involvement and their encouragement of others to embrace volunteerism. The six-week nomination period culminated with nearly 500 entries. The 10 winners include:

  • Lucy Attner, director of operations for the Central Atlantic region, from the McLean, VA office, who will direct the firm’s donation to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of the National Capital Area

  • Joe Delaney, director of alumni relations for the Northeast Region, from the New York office, who will direct the firm’s donation to Virtual Enterprise International, a program that helps high school students run simulated companies and prepares them for working in a real business environment

  • Stacy Denton, a tax senior associate from the Atlanta office, who will direct the firm’s donation to the Atlanta Humane Society

  • Yvette Ellis, a marketing manager from the Chicago office, who will direct the firm’s donation to the Inspiration Café, an organization that provides meals and other services to the hungry and homeless in Chicago

  • Tom Flanagan, a partner from the Chicago office, who will direct the firm’s donation to The Boys & Girls Clubs of America

  • Girard Healy, a tax senior manager from the Boston office, who will direct the firm’s donation to Hospitality Homes, an organization that provides free housing to the families of patients who travel to Boston for medical treatment

  • Norman Kerth, a retired partner from the New Orleans office, who will direct the firm’s donation to The Catholic Foundation for the Archbishop’s Community Appeal
  • Mary Ellen Rodgers, managing partner of the Grand Rapids, MI office, who will direct the firm’s donation to St. John’s Home, a residential treatment facility for abused and neglected children

  • David Thoen, a senior manager in human capital consulting from the Minneapolis office, who will direct the firm’s donation to the Charities Challenge, which promotes fitness, and funds organizations working to cure diabetes and other life-threatening illnesses

  • John Viele, a senior manager in strategic procurement services from the Wilton, CT office, who will direct the firm’s donation to the Eli Whitney Museum, which provides experimental building projects, materials and guidance to children
