Businesses across the UK are being called on to enter The BT Cause Related Business Award 2006, supported by the Home Office and in association with the Charities Aid Foundation.

This new Award is open to both large and small companies who can demonstrate excellence in tackling key social issues by forging mutually beneficial partnerships with charities or good causes. It is anticipated that the Award will be fiercely contended as Cause Related Business partnerships have grown increasingly innovative, with businesses mobilising staff time, in-kind donations, brand equity as well as cash. These partnerships usually include one or a combination of mechanics such as Cause Related Marketing, Charity of the Year, employee volunteering, payroll giving, and/or gifts in kind.

Cause Related Business partnerships allow companies to leverage resources into charities and good causes whilst meeting key business objectives such as improving staff morale, building a stronger brand and fostering better relationships with key stakeholders.

Adrian Hosford, director of corporate responsibility at BT, said: "As a past winner of the Cause-related Marketing Award we are proud to sponsor the category. At BT we believe all companies should take their responsibility to society and the environment very seriously, this award recognises those organisations that have achieved superior excellence and impact on a key social issue."

The Award is a new category within the Business in the Community Awards for Excellence, which recognises companies for integrating responsible business practice into their mainstream operations leading to a positive impact for business and society. Rigorously assessed and independently assured to awards are powerful benchmarks of good corporate practice.

Entrants from previous years tell us that putting an entry together not only establishes a baseline for future development, but also creates a valuable resource of information, impact evidence and stakeholder endorsement that can be put to good use for a variety of reports and communication.

Full details of all categories and the application forms are available on the website www.bitc.org.uk/awards. Advice on submitting applications will be available at entrant workshops taking place across the UK through December and January. The closing date for the awards is 3 March 2006.
