MINNEAPOLIS, MN. - December 4, 2008 - The Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA) announced today that it will hold a comprehensive Managed Care Compliance conference, February 22-24, 2009 in Scottsdale, Arizona. The HCCA's Managed Care Compliance conference, a critically important conference for the industry, is intended to provide essential information for individuals involved with managing compliance at health plans, including compliance professionals, in-house and external counsel, internal auditors, regulatory compliance personnel, or managed care lawyers.

Hot Topic "“ New York State Medicaid Managed Care Guidance
In early 2009, New York State will publish model compliance guidance for Medicaid managed care plans. It is expected to be a state and national model. This is the first major public guidance for managed care plans in at least six years, and the first managed care compliance guidance from a State Medicaid Inspector General.

On Monday, February 23, 2009 the opening general session will feature two speakers from the New York Office of the Medicaid Inspector General, Carol Booth, RN, Auditor, and Patrick Dufresne, Director, Bureau of Managed Care and Provider Review. They will review the guidance and expectations for the compliance function. This session will address:

  • the first public Medicaid managed care compliance guidance since 2002

  • the use of data mining and data analysis techniques by state Medicaid agencies in reviewing billing and recovering payments to Medicaid managed care plans

  • approaches and impediments to assuring provision of more current and accurate information used in billing and payment to and from managed care plans.
New York Medicaid Inspector General James G. Sheehan will address the conference during a general session on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at which time he will discuss and review the Managed Care Compliance Guidance and its implications for managed care entities.

Other topics to be covered at the conference include: managed care risk assessment, preventing and responding to data breaches, information security for health plans, Medicare Advantage and Part D compliance, top10compliance challenges manage care plans face, and more.
