LOS ANGELES, CA - Dennis Weaver drives the lead hybrid auto in caravan from Santa Monica Pier at 11 a.m. April 30 to Washington, D.C., with thousands of signatures for Congress urging transition to hydrogen fuel, mandating improved mileage and decreasing importation of gasoline.

Campaign is principally funded by $250,000 from The Annenberg Foundation. It was recently donated to the non-profit Institute of Ecolonomics, which was founded by Dennis and his wife, Gerry, ten years ago, to "save the planet" from air pollution. Many other sponsors also are contributing.

Drive to Survive 2003 will arrive in Washington May 14, where petitions will be presented to Congress, and a rally endorsing clean air fuels will be held. Several legislators and governmental officials are greeting the caravan. Women of Washington, a civic group, will salute Weaver and his colleagues at a banquet May 15.

Gerry, Dennis' wife for 57 years (so far), will be beside him as he drives every mile of the junket in their hybrid Prius. Seven other autos in the caravan will be powered with various kinds of non-conventional fuels, including at least one that will complete the first leg of the run fully
hydrogen propelled.

Dozens of press conferences, rallies, demonstrations, meetings at educational institutions, media appointments and government discussions will be conducted en route.

Weaver points out: "We can create cars and fuels that preserve the environment while enabling a robust economy. This Drive to Survive is our way
to alert millions to the growing success and potentials of these developments, if we push for them." In 2001 Dennis publicly announced at a national energy conference that he was writing President Bush urging that America embrace a
hydrogen fuel economy. He was pleased when The President in his State of the Nation address revealed a $1,200,000,000 investment in hydrogen research.

Busy as he is with his motion picture and television career, Weaver devotes most of his non-acting hours to the Institute of Ecolonomics, which is named from his combining the words "ecology" and "economy." He served both of
his endeavors recently when the television series "Touched by an Angel" was especially written for him so he could guest star in the role of an impassioned hydrogen inventor.

Hollywood personalities who support Weaver's goals will be present at the April 30 event. Included will be Shelley Fabares, Mike Farrell, Linda Gray, Larry Hagman, Michael Nouri, Lindsay Wagner and others. The administrator of The Annenberg Foundation, Charles Annenberg Weingarten, also will attend.
