Zurich - Mandatum Asset Management, the leading investment manager for corporate customers in Finland, has licensed the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index ex Alcohol, Gambling, Tobacco, Armaments & Firearms (DJSI World ex All) for its offering to sustainability-driven investors. The company, which belongs to the Finnish Sampo Group, will use the benchmark for a bond as well as an equity fund. For the fixed income product, the DJSI World ex All will be applied to identify appropriate issuers of corporate bonds. The equity fund will be invested exclusively in members of this index and will have its performance measured against it.

“Interest in sustainability investments has grown significantly among Finnish clients over the last twelve months. With the Sampo Sustainability Bond Fund and the Sampo Sustainability Equity Fund we aim to expand our reach into this growing market segment. We believe that the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes provide us with the best platform to target this objective.”, says Pekka Niemela, Executive Director of Mandatum Asset Management.

“We are delighted that Mandatum has chosen the DJSI to position itself for this increasingly important investment style. Their move is yet another indication for the growing attention investors pay to the integration of economic, environmental and social criteria in mainstream asset management. It also reflects the rising demand for appropriate benchmarks in this area.”, says Alexander Barkawi, Managing Director of SAM Indexes.

Based on the cooperation of Dow Jones Indexes, STOXX Limited and SAM they provide asset managers with professional and objective benchmarks to manage sustainability portfolios. More than 40 DJSI licenses are currently held by asset managers in 14 countries to manage a variety of financial products including actively and passively managed funds, certificates and segregated accounts. In total, they presently manage 1.7 billion EUR based on the DJSI. A list of the DJSI licensees is available at http://www.sustainability-indexes.com/licensing/current.html.

The DJSI World family covers the top 10% of the biggest 2,500 companies in the Dow Jones Global Index in terms of economic, environmental and social criteria. As a benchmark for European sustainability investments, the DJSI STOXX family covers the leading 20% of the companies in the Dow Jones STOXXSM 600 index. The selection of index components follows a rule-based process defined in the DJSI Guidebooks and is verified by an external auditor.
