WASHINGTON, D.C.--The United States Chamber of Commerce Center for Corporate Citizenship (CCC) will officially launch the Business Education Network (BEN) and simultaneously host the first BEN Summit on October 5-7, 2005, in Washington, D.C. BEN is a coalition of businesses and education service providers dedicated to promoting the competitiveness of the U.S. education system.

"Education is the number one social issue that American businesses care about," said CCC Executive Director Stephen Jordan. "We expect leaders from all 50 states to participate in our program so that we can build better relations between business and education partnerships and enhance the competitiveness of our nation's schools."

The BEN Summit will focus on:

  • Promoting better dialogue between education and business leaders
  • Strategies for building successful business education partnerships
  • Expanding successful math, science, and technology partnerships
  • Replicating successful community education partnerships
  • Promoting educator effectiveness

    Featured speakers include Bill Shore, director of U.S. Community Partnerships, GlaxoSmithKline and BEN Steering Committee Chairman; Paul Vallas, CEO for the School District of Pennsylvania; U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education Raymond Simon; and many other leaders in business, education, and government.

    CCC also will unveil the BEN Web portal on October 7, which will serve as an information clearinghouse and a tool for businesses engaging in education partnerships.
