POTOMAC, MD -- responding to the new business climate of increased corporate scrutiny and accountability, PR NEWS, has rolled out the 2003 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Awards. In addition, the newsletter will be sponsoring a virtual seminar on the topic of corporate social responsibility.

The CSR awards, in its second year, honors those companies that have taken corporate social responsibility to a higher level with innovative, thoughtful campaigns and ongoing programs. Deadline for entry in the CSR Awards is November 7.

The CSR awards, presented by the leading industry newsletter PR NEWS, are an increasingly important area of public relations. Winners of the 2003 program will be honored in 10 categories: Business Ethics Communications, Community Affairs, CSR Report, Diversity Communications, Employee Relations, Environmental Communications, Financial Communications, Labor Relations Communications, Most Outstanding Association Partner and Most Outstanding Nonprofit Partner.

On December 9, PR NEWS will be presenting a virtual seminar designed for communicators at companies of all sizes as well as those who are already in the CSR arena or starting with a clean slate. The Advanced CSR: “Developing & Executing Successful Corporate Social Responsibility Programs” will take place from 1:30- 3 p.m. EST. As a virtual seminar, attendees call in from anywhere in the world, listen to the program, watch the presentations online and engage in a question-and-answer session.

Speakers at the virtual seminar include Carol Cone, president, Cone Inc; Michael R. Mitchell, director, Corporate Communications, Chiquita Brands International Inc.; Lynn Phares, president, ConAgra Foods Foundation and Steve Voien, executive VP-director of U.S. operations for First&42nd, Edelman's CSR practice.
