Call for nominations for 2004 Corporate Citizen Awards

Dallas, Texas, U.S. - Behind all the headlines these days about corporate and Wall Street scandals lie stories of hundreds of firms that are quietly providing outstanding support to the communities in which they operate.

Which good corporate citizens do you admire?

The Corporate Citizen Group invites nominations for the Corporate Citizen Awards, honoring effective corporate citizenship as demonstrated by American and Canadian companies.

The 2004 awards will award companies whose ethics, vision, leadership and earth-friendliness together merit recognition.

Corporate citizenship
"The Corporate Citizen Group believes that corporate citizenship is defined not by numbers of employees, annual revenues or charitable giving budgets," states Randall White, president of the Corporate Citizen Group (CCG).

"Corporate citizenship is about a company living in harmony with the communities in which its employees, clients and customers live, work and play."

Nominations process
Nominations will be accepted via the Internet through March 1, 2004. Nominations can be submitted by a company representative or by a direct, or indirect, beneficiary of the company's corporate citizenship. A company can be nominated multiple times by multiple stakeholders.

A senior panel of impartial community relations specialists and industry observers from across North America will review the nominations.

This Corporate Citizen Awards panel will then choose ten finalists in each of three categories: American corporate citizens, Canadian corporate citizens and - in tribute to the CCG's home community - Dallas/Fort Worth corporate citizens (who may or may not be companies also included among the top ten American companies).

On April 1, 2004, through electronic and print media and to those registered through its Web site, the Corporate Citizen Group will announce the finalists. At that time, the thirty finalists will submit supplemental information.

Also at that time, all community stakeholders will have the opportunity to vote for their Corporate Citizen Award preferences through the CCG Website. The results of this online poll will account for one-third of the final decision.

Simultaneously, an impartial jury will review the finalist nomination packets. This jury will comprise representatives of the media, the philanthropic industry as well as corporate social responsibility leaders from around the world. The jurors' preferences will account for two-thirds of the final decision. The awards will be presented in June.

"Any stakeholder can nominate a corporate citizen, and any stakeholder can participate in the decision-making process," says White.

This is the first year of the Corporate Citizen Awards, the only non-partisan recognition for corporate citizenship that invites nominations from anyone and for any-sized U.S. or Canadian business. The awards are also the only North American corporate recognition program that will include public input in the final decision-making process.

The Corporate Citizen Award itself is a limited-edition sculpture entitled "Voyagers" created by American artist Randy Marks. With a stylized image of diverse passengers traveling together on a vessel, the bronze- cast piece beautifully conveys the message of unity and collective strength.
