The New Academy of Business Re-launches as Guild of Sustainability Practitioners

BRISTOL - The New Academy of Business is set to re-launch itself as a guild of sustainability practitioners. After 10 years of work focussed on education, research and training, which included the foundation of a ground-breaking Masters degree in Responsibility and Business Practice with the University of Bath (http://www.bath.ac.uk/carpp/msc.htm - currently recruiting for its next in-take in March 2005), the trustees have adopted a new approach to fulfil the New Academy's mission.

The main focus of the New Academy in future will be to promote the work of people concerned with issues of social and environmental responsibility in business, and to support their development. The New Academy will become a membership organisation providing services that include quality assurance and brokerage for contracts with private, voluntary and public bodies. The New Academy itself has an innovative 'organic' form that draws its direction from the membership through a combination of election and appointment by lot.

An open meeting for those interested in joining the guild is to be held in central Bristol on Thursday 2 December 2004. The details of this meeting, and the changes planned can be obtained from Mike Zeidler, who has resigned from the board of trustees to take on the role of Acting Director. David Murphy remains Director of the New Academy alongside Mike until the end of December, when he leaves for a post with the UN System Staff College in Turin, Italy.

For further information, to register interest or to attend the Bristol event on 2nd December, please contact Mike at mike.zeidler@new-academy.ac.uk.
