July 30, 2008 - The European Academy of Business in Society (EABIS), and Cranfield University School of Management are delighted to announce that the 7th Annual Colloquium will take place on September 10-11 in Cranfield, UK The 2008 Colloquium will take as its theme: "CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY AND SUSTAINABILITY: LEADERSHIP AND ORGANISATIONAL CHANGE". Specifically, the conference will drill into the vital challenges of embedding CR and Sustainability into the DNA of the firm (structures, cultures, systems, processes and competencies); the implied organisational change, innovation or even transformation this takes; and the required leadership for making this happen.

Expecting more than 300 participants from academia, business, policy and leading stakeholder bodies, the conference will feature a combination of plenary, break-out sessions, and an International Gala Dinner. Over 80 papers and case studies on Organisational Change and Sustainability from senior researchers, business managers and international think-tanks will be presented in an interactive debate on latest thought leadership and practice.

A range of prominent speakers will be present to shape and inform the collective discussions. The conference will feature executive-level inputs from Sir Michael Rake, Chairman of BT Group plc and former Chairman of KPMG International, John Elkington, Founder of SustainAbility, and Prof. Dexter Dunphy from the University of Technology Sydney; and many other organisations including IBM, Accenture, Procter & Gamble, Center for Creative Leadership, ESADE Business School, TNT Express.

Event Highlights

  • CR Knowledge and Learning Forum - A 90 minutes market place for open 1 to 1 exchange showcasing latest CR case-studies; EABIS-funded research projects; and several new curriculum development projects.
  • Specialist seminars drilling down on key questions associated with embedding CR; and to workshops debating latest thinking and experience.
  • Launches of international innovations: The EABIS-EFMD Business in Society Gateway portal & Cranfield School of Management "50 Lessons on Corporate Responsibility".
  • Presentation of the research contributions from academics and management development thinking applied to CR much of it yet unpublished. Discussions are kicked off with brief commentaries by a business lead and an academic counterpart to pick out common themes.
  • High level networking events, including a Gala Dinner at Woburn Abbey to meet informally with leading academic researchers and practitioners to gain business relevant insights and business-academic lunches to develop international communities of practice.

In one sentence, the EABIS Colloquium is a unique opportunity to look at some of the latest management development resources on CR; to hear from some of the world's leading companies; and to debate some of the toughest issues in embedding CR and sustainability.

Promoting the next Generation of CR Leaders

A special PhD conference will take place at Ashridge on September 13. This conference brings together doctoral candidates from across Europe and beyond to share their research experience, their findings and the challenges they face in their studies on corporate responsibility. It provides a unique opportunity to boost individual PhD projects by benefiting from high-level feedback from EABIS experts and peer-learning from fellow PhD candidates in the CR/Sustainability space.
