MedMira Rapid HIV Tests Donated to African Orphanage

These rapid HIV tests enabled the medical clinic at the orphanage to screen each child residing at the site for HIV-infection (the virus that causes AIDS) and provide subsequent counseling and care.
The World Health Organization estimates that by 2010 there will be 43 million orphaned children living on the streets in Africa. The continent is currently known to be experiencing the worst AIDS epidemic in the world. It is estimated that some 750 people die each day of AIDS-related illnesses in Kenya alone, just a small portion of the 356 people dying each hour in the whole of Africa. Many children have been left homeless due to the loss of their parents from this devastating virus and many of these same children are also infected with HIV.
