SEATTLE - Ocean Beauty Seafoods has been honored for their commitment to increasing the availability of seafood to alleviate hunger. On September 12th, Ocean Beauty received a special Hungers Hope Award at America's Second Harvest's National Conference in Baltimore. The company has led the seafood industry in helping to alter the balance of quality food and nutrition for hungry Americans.

"We congratulate Ocean Beauty Seafoods for their invaluable work toward ending hunger in America," said Shelly Elfstrom, America's Second Harvest food sourcing. "This dedicated company has donated a wide variety of products, as well as services, logistical support, and project funding to build a solid, sustainable source of seafood for hunger relief."

During the last twelve years America's seafood producers have become a national force in the fight against hunger, through their partnerships with SeaShare. Their steadily increasing seafood product donations provide a needed source of high-value protein for the people served by America's Second Harvest affiliates.

"In 2004 alone, the products they donate will provide over 16 million seafood meals," said Elfstrom. "Though many individual companies contribute generously to this effort, at the awards banquet we want to recognize Ocean Beauty's unusual depth of commitment to help end domestic hunger."

"We are proud of the work we do on behalf of America's Second Harvest. Our contributions are not only in donations, but also in providing workable programs to provide food for hungry Americans. At Ocean Beauty, we always are looking for ways to be careful stewards of our resources and to give back to the communities we serve," said Mark Palmer, Ocean Beauty executive vice president - operations & sales.
