LONDON, ON - Today, April 21st, Ivey students will present the keys to the family receiving the house they built in partnership with Habitat for Humanity. Former US presidential candidate and longtime consumer advocate Ralph Nader will cut the ceremonial ribbon at 4:00 p.m. The project, called Ivey Builds, had Ivey students partnering with volunteers to build the house over a 3 week stretch this past month.

Ivey's mission is to develop business leaders who think globally, act strategically and contribute to the societies in which they operate. Ivey students put that mission into practice by creating Ivey Builds to build a wheel-chair accessible home. The construction of the house was the centerpiece of Ivey Builds, where students were involved in all facets of the initiative - from fundraising and planning, to designing and building.

Earlier this week, two MBA students were awarded the Graduate Business Foundation's 2005 International Student Leadership Award for their involvement with the Ivey Builds project. Students Prakash David and Mark Healy won the award for planning and coordinating Ivey Builds.

Ivey Builds has been a year-long endeavour. The planning and fundraising was done during the fall and winter and the building of the house took place this month - while students also prepared for final exams. Over the past three weeks, almost 300 people at Ivey - students, faculty and staff helped with the building of the house.

"I am extremely proud of everyone involved in the Ivey Builds project. What started as a vision of a small group of students ended as a project that truly rallied the Ivey community and made the Ivey mission come alive. In Ivey's learning environment students not only learn the fundamentals of business, they learn how to communicate, to motivate, and to lead. The success of Ivey Builds demonstrates that we are developing leaders with a well-rounded sense of social responsibility," said Dean Carol Stephenson.

The completion of the build will culminate with the Ivey Builds Conference: What is Corporate Social Responsibility? - an Ivey National Conference on Friday, April 22nd. The conference will feature topics on Corporate Social Responsibility with Ralph Nader, Stephen Lewis and Avi Friedman as the keynote speakers.

The dedication ceremony will be held at the Ivey Builds Habitat for Humanity London house today, Thursday, April 21st.

Address: 58 Smith Street, London (near Trafalgar and Hamilton Rd)

Time: 4:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m.

The Ivey Builds Conference: What is Corporate Social Responsibility? is running on Friday, April 22 from 7:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. in room 1R40 at Ivey.

Media are invited to attend both events - please call for details.
