Vignette Supports American Red Cross Tsunami Relief Efforts Through Donation of Products and Services

AUSTIN, TX - Vignette Corp. (Nasdaq:VIGN) today announced that it has donated more than $160,000 (U.S.) in products and services to the American Red Cross in the last month, in support of relief efforts following the devastating tsunami that struck Southern Asia and Eastern Africa. Vignette is equally pleased to announce that an employee-matching fund it operated during January, in which it doubled employees' contributions to the American Red Cross or another relief agency, generated more than $20,000 in tsunami relief contributions.

The American Red Cross, one of the largest volunteer humanitarian organizations in the world, uses Vignette(R) content management solutions to efficiently manage thousands of pages on its Web site and provide a massively scalable online platform that supports donation spikes such as those resulting from natural or man-made disasters. During January's "Tsunami Aid: A Concert of Hope," an NBC-Universal benefit that brought together some of Hollywood's biggest stars in support of the American Red Cross relief efforts for tsunami survivors, Vignette donated time and products to help the American Red Cross successfully support increased site traffic. The site easily handled the increased volume and was available to accept donations from any person who logged on.

The American Red Cross leverages Vignette technology for its public-facing site (www.redcross.org) and its secure donation site ( www.redcross.org/donate/donation-form.asp). Between Dec. 26 - when the tsunami struck - and Jan. 31, the American Red Cross raised more than $258.6 million for its international tsunami response efforts. The organization's online site has facilitated more than 577,600 donations. In fact, of the $258.6 million raised, more than $87.2 million was contributed through its Web site.

"In the course of a relief operation, there are some necessary direct support expenses incurred that are crucial to the overall relief effort - costs that the American Red Cross would not be incurring in an everyday working environment but that are essential to the relief operation," said Tish Mokrzycki, manager of Online Fundraising for the American Red Cross. "When a longtime and trusted vendor like Vignette donates its services, its generosity makes donation dollars go even further in the effort to aid survivors of the devastating tsunami."

With Vignette, the American Red Cross also has been able to efficiently create, manage and deliver information to help ensure constituents have up-to-date details about tsunami relief efforts and how donated dollars are rushing aid to those in need around the world.

"The Internet is invaluable as a mechanism for fast, effective dissemination of information as well as being a vehicle for the American Red Cross. Its scalability is particularly relevant during times of crisis when we can receive up to 25 times the normal amount of traffic," Mokrzycki said. "Vignette has been an exceptional tool for us over the past few years that enables us to efficiently manage our site and ensure a positive experience for visitors and donors alike."

"The American Red Cross' continued success with online information-sharing and fundraising is a great example of how organizations can gain powerful leverage with front-end brand management coupled with robust back-end scalability and flexibility," said Chuck Neal, senior vice president of worldwide sales and distribution at Vignette. "Through strategic design and presentation of its information and identity via the Web, the American Red Cross is able to more quickly and efficiently mobilize support and respond to needs across the world."

For years, high-volume, public-facing organizations from all over the globe have tapped Vignette solutions to provide stability across their Web sites during significant surges in site traffic. In addition to the American Red Cross, organizations such as the Internal Revenue Service, The Wall Street Journal Online and the Athens 2004 Olympic Games have used Vignette to handle significant increases in site traffic with lower investments in hardware.
