MINNEAPOLIS, MN., January 9, 2007---On January 18, 2007, the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics (SCCE) will present a Web conference to review the recent memorandum released on December 12, 2006 by U.S. Deputy Attorney General Paul J. McNulty and discuss its ramifications.

Hot Topic: McNulty Memorandum Background

This new guidance revises the Thompson Memorandum, which was issued in January 2003 by then-Deputy Attorney General Larry D. Thompson and titled the "Principles of Federal Prosecution of Business Organizations." The memo provides useful guidance to prosecutors in the field through nine factors to use when deciding whether to charge a corporation with criminal offenses.

Expert Faculty

Speakers for this Web Conference include Gabriel L. Imperato, Managing Partner at Broad and Cassel and Judith A. Waltz, Partner at Foley and Lardner LLP. They will provide a history of the Thompson Memorandum and the events leading up to the McNulty Memorandum. Compliance professionals will learn how the McNulty Memorandum has affected the directives of the Thompson Memorandum in respect to their day-to-day compliance responsibilities.

The Web conference will detail:

  • recent revisions of Department of Justice policy,
