WAINSCOTT, NY - April 8, 2008 - Sweetwater's Cleaners announced today that it is offsetting 70 metric tons of carbon emissions with Carbonfund.org, one of the country's leading carbon offset organizations.

Through Carbonfund.org's CarbonFree(TM) Small Business Program, Sweetwater's Cleaners is assuming environmental leadership in Suffolk County and the Hamptons community. In addition, the new partnership demonstrates the proactive steps Sweetwater's Cleaners is taking in the fight against global climate change.

"We are all personally responsible for our actions, as well as the health and well-being of our environment," said Charles Garland, principle of Sweetwater's Cleaners. "It's important to understand that good environmental practices make for good business sense. We have implemented an aggressive recycling program with our customers, and we are investigating items such as degradable poly bags. These efforts take time and money, but they pale in comparison to the consequences of doing nothing."

Garland noted that there are very few, if any, suppliers in the dry cleaning industry promoting or even aware of carbon footprints and climate change issues. "This makes it even more important that we take the first step and persuade our suppliers to follow suit through purchasing persuasion," said Garland. "I'll be talking to other business including our competitors about the need to take an aggressive pro-environmental stand and achieve carbon neutrality today."

"Sweetwater's Cleaners understands that businesses have abundant opportunities to reduce their climate impact, while also encouraging their consumers to do the same through their leadership," said Eric Carlson, Executive Director of Carbonfund.org. "We applaud Sweetwater's Cleaners for being the first cleaners in their area to be Carbonfree."
