SILVER SPRING, MD - November 20, 2006 - The Electric Drive Transportation Association (EDTA) has worked with Carbonfund.org, the leading non-profit carbon offset provider, to offset its 2006 conference and exposition, Achieving Energy Independence Through Electric Drive: Industry and Government, Working Together.

This event will draw leaders from industry, government, and academia together to discuss the exciting opportunities for electric drive solutions to reduce our nation's dependence on foreign oil and decrease emissions of carbon dioxide, a major contributor to climate change. Offsetting the emissions sends a strong signal that EDTA is working to reduce its climate change impact and will help to educate these leaders about the opportunities for offsetting.

Carbonfund.org calculated the CO2 emissions that would be created by this event from attendee travel as well as the use of hotel rooms and the convention space. Then, Carbonfund.org offset these emissions by supporting renewable energy, energy efficiency, and reforestation projects on behalf of EDTA. By offsetting the event's emissions, EDTA qualified for Carbonfund.org's Carbonfree™ designation. When attendees see this designation, they will know that EDTA has made a significant commitment on their behalf.

"The EDTA is working to advance technologies that will reduce climate change impacts, so it's only fitting that also offset the impacts that are being created by this event," said Eric Carlson, executive director of Carbonfund.org. "Introducing these leaders to carbon offsets and Carbonfund.org will help more and more people to understand how carbon offsets are part of the climate change solution."

"We knew that we wanted to offset this event, and Carbonfund.org made it easy for us to do so," said Genevieve Cullen, vice president of EDTA. "Carbon offsets were a great solution to reduce the impact of our event."
