(Silver Spring, MD) -- Carbonfund.org, the leading non-profit carbon offset organization, has announced that SunEdison LLC, North America's leading solar energy service provider, has offset its corporate emissions.

This unique partnership highlights SunEdison's commitment to making its own business carbon neutral in the same way that the solar-generated electricity it produces is carbon neutral. Working with Carbonfund.org was a cost-effective way to for the company to reduce its climate impact to zero.

"SunEdison's business is built around producing clean energy and reducing emissions, so it's especially thrilling to me that they have chosen us as their offset partner," said Eric Carlson, executive director of Carbonfund.org. He continued, "Solar power is a technology whose time has come, and we're excited to see SunEdison provide such an innovative program. It means many more businesses will be able to reduce their CO2 emissions, and that's what is important to us at Carbonfund.org."

"Being carbon neutral is core to SunEdison's corporate values." said Claire Broido Johnson, Partner and VP of Environmental Attributes, SunEdison, LLC. "We are delighted to partner with Carbonfund.org to offset our small but remaining CO2 emissions."

Carbon offsets enable individuals and businesses to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in one location, where it is cost effective, to offset the emissions they are responsible for in their normal activities, like home, office, driving or air travel emissions. For instance, a clean, zero CO2 wind farm can offset the carbon dioxide produced by a coal-fired power plant. Carbonfund.org has offset 365 tons of CO2 on behalf of SunEdison. Carbonfund.org will retire an equivalent amount of carbon offsets by supporting reforestation projects.
