Washington, DC (March 23) - Environmental Defense and the Advertising Council, the leader in public service announcements, have launched a "Fight Global Warming" campaign to raise awareness about global warming and urge individuals to take action. Carbonfund.org, a non-profit organization whose goal is to make climate protection both easy and affordable, was selected as one of the first campaign retailers to provide carbon offsets to the public via the initiative as a practical step to combat global warming.

"The Fight Global Warming campaign is a critical step because it is not only raising awareness, but also calling for immediate action." says Lesley Marcus Carlson, President of Carbonfund.org. "The goals of the campaign closely mirror Carbonfund.org's goals of education and taking action immediately, and we are thrilled to be a part of such a significant endeavor."

"Fight Global Warming" is a multi year media campaign launched today via television, radio, print, and the web. After seeing or listening to a message, people are encouraged to go to www.fightglobalwarming.com to learn more about global warming and more importantly, what they can do to slow it down. A key element of the campaign is encouraging people to calculate their own carbon emissions, review options for reducing their emissions, and offset emissions that they cannot immediately reduce.

Carbon offsets enable individuals and businesses to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in one location, where it is cost effective, to offset the emissions they are responsible for in their normal activities, like home, office, driving or air travel emissions. For instance, Carbonfund.org is featuring a bio-mass project for the campaign that uses cow manure to generate electricity. Buying offsets for this project allows someone to replace their CO2 contributing electricity.

"The United States no longer has the luxury to debate global warming. We must take decisive steps to prevent a tipping point from which we cannot return." says Fred Krupp, President of Environmental Defense. "Carbon offsets are a very efficient and useful tool for taking action, and we are very happy to have Carbonfund.org as a campaign partner."
