COLUMBUS, Ohio,- As president of the United States, Jimmy Carter demonstrated a deep passion for human rights and even after his tenure as the leader of our country-promoted peace through the nonprofit Carter Center in Atlanta with the Jimmy Carter Work Project for Habitat for Humanity International. One week each year, he and his wife Rosalynn lead a work group to help renovate homes and build affordable shelter for individuals and families in need.

This year, Nationwide is pleased to partner as a demonstration of its passion for human rights and continue the partnership with Habitat for Humanity that has resulted in the building of more than 90 homes over the past six years. The Carters will be in the Michigan area from June 19-24 and help in the construction of an estimated 30 Habitat homes.

Nationwide Insurance has generously donated $150,000 to this effort that will build two full "Nationwide Houses" as part of the Jimmy Carter Work Project.

"This is a great demonstration of public and private partners coming together for a global effort to alleviate the problems of homelessness and bring about a vision of homeownership," said Lorraine Brock, vice president for the Office of Diverse Markets. "We have a history with Habitat for Humanity that spans over the years and it has made an impact for individuals and families for the future."

Nationwide's donation will result in the construction of a home in Detroit and another in Grand Rapids. Employees and agents will volunteer their time to work on both houses, along with volunteers from Habitat and other community residents.

"The Jimmy Carter Work Project is a powerful opportunity for Nationwide's employees and agents to change lives and help renew the communities where we live, work and conduct business," Brock adds. "This community involvement is more than the financial contribution we have made with Habitat, it is about our commitment to safe and affordable housing for the diverse populations we serve."

This hands-on involvement creates visible evidence of Nationwide's dedication to improve housing and create opportunities for families in diverse communities.
