BOSTON, MA. - July 14, 2008 - Harvard Business School (HBS) today announced its upcoming session of Corporate Social Responsibility: Strategies to Create Business and Social Value, a program that examines the link between corporate social responsibility and competitive advantage. Now in its fourth year, this annual Executive Education offering will be held October 15"“18, 2008, on the HBS campus in Boston.

Targeted to senior executives from a broad range of industries, the curriculum focuses on aligning corporate culture and social responsibility strategies. "The program will enable firms to achieve even higher levels of economic and social performance-positively driving the bottom line, while significantly contributing to the betterment of society," said Professor V. Kasturi Rangan, faculty chair of this popular HBS Executive Education program.

Developed in response to the increasing expectations of consumers, investors, communities, and governments for socially responsible business practices, the program explores the dilemmas, challenges, and complexities inherent in current models of social responsibility. By addressing the next generation of corporate social responsibility issues, it also helps participants to:

  • Understand both the costs and benefits of corporate social responsibility
  • Integrate social responsibility with corporate strategy, decision making, and risk assessment
  • Interact and communicate successfully with governments, NGOs, and key stakeholders
  • Identify and explore critical emerging issues facing the field of corporate social responsibility
  • Implement systems to avoid potentially damaging events and mitigate the after-effects of a crisis
  • Measure the impact of corporate social responsibility initiatives on the organization's bottom line
By drawing on real-world case studies, classroom discussions, and the latest research, HBS faculty help senior executives to develop and manage initiatives that integrate both corporate and social values, while producing quantifiable results. Participants also gain exposure to diverse perspectives through interacting with industry guest speakers and developing a network of global peers.

"This program provided a lifetime's worth of experience in one week," said Richard Woods, former program participant and senior vice president of Capital One Financial Corporation. "The case studies were priceless, as the faculty demonstrated cutting-edge thinking and practical experience each day. I left with a broader view and a better understanding of the strategic framework needed to succeed in this vital dimension of corporate performance."
