ALEXANDRIA, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 29, 2005--Q: What are the two things that preventing child sexual abuse and good program management have in common?

A: They both bring light and clarity to issues that have frequently been hushed up in the past; and they both prevent future disaster by identifying and dealing with current risks.

Mary Pinckney gets to merge her passion for volunteer work and protecting children against sexual abuse with her career as a project management consultant at Robbins-Gioia LLC, a preeminent program management firm based in Alexandria, Va. A Charleston native, Pinckney became involved two years ago with Darkness to Light (D2L), a nonprofit organization aimed at confronting and preventing child sexual abuse. Since then, she has spent her free time and vacations working with D2L. She explained, "If I can give even just one week of my life to help prevent the emotional devastation in a child's life caused by sexual abuse, I will give it gladly."

This fall, however, Pinckney will provide her professional skills for two weeks on Robbins-Gioia's dime--with the blessing of Robbins-Gioia president and chief executive officer Jim Leto. D2L has several large initiatives for Stewards of Children training, its sexual abuse prevention training program designed for youth-serving organizations and corporations. One project involves a private foundation's initiative to integrate this training as a prerequisite for teacher accreditation, daycare facility or instruction service provider certification, or securing of a license to operate a youth-serving organization such as youth clubs or soccer leagues. Pinckney will create project plans (which include communications and resource requirements and budget milestones) for this effort, which can be used as a template for initiatives at the state government and private foundation level throughout the United States and internationally.

Pinckney is also working on an initiative to integrate the training and tools into risk reduction and management for insurance purposes for all youth-serving organizations. Previously, she helped to conduct facilitated sessions to help develop the growth segment of D2L's strategic plan.

"The experience and expertise that Mary brings to D2L is just what the doctor ordered! We are embarking on a very ambitious venture that demands the level of project management, coordination, and objectivity that Mary brings to our table. We are grateful, indeed, for this generous gift," said Anne Lee, founder, president and CEO.

Leto said that Robbins-Gioia is committed to providing D2L two weeks of paid consultant time as part of the company's annual philanthropic plan. He added, "Normal people get very angry when they hear about child sexual abuse. We have the opportunity to turn that anger into a positive response by giving D2L what it needs and what we do best--program management."
