Mittal Steel USA, America's largest steelmaker and a division of Mittal Steel Co., has partnered with Long Beach City Hall and The Mississippi Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce-Long Beach Area Council to host the annual Christmas on the Avenue holiday festival. This year's event is scheduled for Sunday, December 11 from 2-6 PM and will be held in Long Beach's War Memorial Park. All are welcome to attend this free event.

The holiday festival will feature musical selections by The Long Beach High School Madrigals, First United Methodist Church of Long Beach's Chancel Choir, Ladies' and Men's Ensembles, Chancel Handbells, Youth Quartet and Soloists as well as carols led by the St. Thomas Church Choir. Festivities will also include lighting Long Beach's tree with Mayor Skellie, seeing Santa Claus and his sleigh filled with gifts for local children, enjoying hot gumbo, holiday cookies, pizza, and hot chocolate prepared locally and browsing vendor booths offering handmade jewelry, gift baskets, pottery and more. The event is designed with the whole family in mind and promises to have something for everyone.

During the event, Mayor Skellie and the CEO of Mittal Steel USA, Lou Schorsch will say a few words about the company's commitment to helping rebuild Long Beach after Hurricane Katrina.

As announced last week, Mittal Steel USA has delivered scope of repair assessments for the Long Beach Public Library, City Hall and Police Station as part of the first phase of the company's effort. Mittal Steel USA committed itself to a partnership with the city of Long Beach and Gov. Barbour to work with individuals, churches, local companies and organizations to help rebuild the community.
