ROCKVILLE, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 23, 2006--BAE Systems today announced that its U.S.-based employees have selected the Alzheimer's Association as the recipient for the 2007-2008 Charity Challenge campaign.

Charity Challenge is an 18-month employee fund raising campaign. Each year, BAE Systems employees around the globe vote to select one charity on which to focus their efforts. Under the Charity Challenge program, BAE Systems supports employee efforts to raise funds for the charity and matches their efforts with a maximum match of $1.9 million. Additionally, the company contributes $100 for each eight-hour volunteer day given by employees to the Charity Challenge organization. In 2006, employees volunteered nearly 10,500 days, nearly doubling the number of days volunteered in previous years.

During the most successful Charity Challenge campaign to date, U.S. employees raised more than $6.9 million dollars for charities nationwide during the 2005-2006 campaign, and $1.2 million for the chosen partner charity, the American Cancer Society. After a BAE Systems match, more than $2.1 million was given to the American Cancer Society.

The Alzheimer's Association is the world leader in Alzheimer research and support, and is the first and largest voluntary health organization dedicated to finding prevention methods, treatments and an eventual cure for Alzheimer's. For more than 25 years, the donor-supported, not-for-profit Alzheimer's Association has provided reliable information and care consultation; created supportive services for families; increased funding for dementia research; and influenced public policy changes.

According to Bob Hastings, BAE Systems' vice president for Public Affairs and Communications, the selection of the Alzheimer's Association as the company's Charity Challenge organization benefits all involved. "Charity Challenge is our way of truly giving back to the communities where we live and work. I'm extremely proud of the hard work and dedication that the employees of BAE Systems put forth each year for charity and I am delighted we will be supporting such a worthy cause as the Alzheimer's Association."
