NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 17, 2006--Prevention magazine, announced today that it will serve as the national print media sponsor for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, a series of non-competitive walking events beginning April 29-30 through October 21-22 in eight cities across the country to raise money for access to care and finding a cure for breast cancer. Each Avon Walk event takes place over a weekend, and the route offers women and men the option of walking twenty-six or thirty-nine miles over Saturday and Sunday.

"Prevention is pleased to partner with the Avon Walks for Breast Cancer," said Bob Ziltz, Vice President and Publisher of Prevention. "Many of us have been affected by this disease and our collaboration is the result of our vision to inspire our 10 million readers to become more aware of breast cancer and the need to find a cure. Our magazine believes in the empowerment that comes from walking and being healthy, so this initiative remains close to the core of what we do."

As the national print media sponsor, Prevention will have a strong presence for its brand in each city's Avon Walk for Breast Cancer "Wellness Village," where participants experience a "home away from home" with hot food, showers, massage services, entertainment, yoga classes, and opportunities to interact with local funded organizations. Prevention will have its own tent in the Wellness Village offering goodie bags, a smoothie bar, yoga instruction, healthy food, and shiatsu and chair massages for the walkers.

The first Avon Walk will take place the weekend of April 29-30, 2006 in Washington, D.C., which follows the annual Prevention walking issue in April, in which the editorial content of the magazine focuses on the healthy and practical benefits of walking, and the release of a Prevention DVD titled Prevention Fitness Systems Walk Yourself Fit. In addition to Washington, D.C., the Avon Walk schedule includes Boston, Chicago, Denver, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York and Charlotte, NC, which closes the season the weekend of October 21-22.

To launch the partnership with the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, Prevention and its Rodale Inc. sister publication Women's Health are supplying copies of the magazines for the Avon Walk "Great Start Party" kick-off events on January 28 in each of the cities. These events attract hundreds of repeat and new participants, who join together to share experiences, learn more, and register for the 2006 events. The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer will run single page ads in the February and March 2006 issues of Prevention announcing the cities and dates for each walk.

"We are delighted to welcome the Prevention brand to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer," stated Carol Kurzig, Executive Director, Avon Foundation. "Their editorial mission mirrors that of the Avon Foundation - to improve the lives of women and their families - and together we can raise awareness and funds that will save lives."

About The Avon Walks For Breast Cancer

The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer series is a project of the Avon Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity founded in 1955. The Foundation manages and disburses the net proceeds from the Avon Walks to support access to care and finding a cure for breast cancer nationwide, with funds awarded for awareness and education; screening and diagnosis; access to treatment; support services; and scientific research. Beneficiaries range from leading cancer centers to community-based nonprofit breast health programs, with a focus on reaching the medically underserved. From 1992 through 2005, the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade has raised and awarded more than $450 million in 50 countries worldwide.
