HAWTHORNE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 20, 2007--Cereplast, Inc (OTCBB:CERP), manufacturer of proprietary bio-based renewable plastics, announced today that it is the recipient of The 2007 Environmental Award for New Technology in Materials from the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE). The award will be officially presented to Frederic Scheer, CEO of Cereplast, during the 2007 Global Plastic Environmental Conference (GPEC) in Orlando, Florida. Other award recipients include GE Plastics, a division of GE (NYSE:GE), and InterfaceFabric, a collaboration between Michigan State University, Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and Herman Miller (NASDAQ:MLHR).

The award attests to the innovation and benefits of Cereplast's proprietary materials, such as sustainability, biodegradability and compostability. Cereplast resins, which are made from a variety of agricultural feedstock and other organic components, contribute to the fight against global warming and participate in the national policy of energy independence. Cereplast's resins are now available for commercial use and have received strong acceptance from some of the major converters in the United States, including Duni, Genpak, Solo Cup and Alcoa Kama, a division of Alcoa (NYSE:AA).

"We are honored to have been recognized by the SPE for our technological leadership and are also very pleased to see that the plastic industry recognizes the importance of sustainability and the benefits of our proprietary bio-resins," said Scheer.

The Society of Plastics Engineers' (SPE) contribution to the plastics industry is over 60 years old, and the organization has in excess of 20,000 members, a network of leading engineers, scientists and other plastics professionals, including technicians, salespeople, marketers, retailers and representatives from tertiary industries. SPE has made a significant difference to the technologies and innovations the industry enjoys today in honoring the new materials that are making plastic so convenient.
