SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 19, 2006--Cereplast Inc. (OTCBB:CERP) today announced a deal to provide the San Francisco School District's "Food to Flowers!" program with compostable plastic bags. Cereplast is the producer of renewable and biodegradable plastics, which are alternatives to petroleum-based plastics. Cereplast compostable plastic bags are certified fully biodegradable by (BPI), The Biodegradable Plastic Institute, as required by the City of San Francisco's composting program.

Sixty-five San Francisco schools participate in "Food to Flowers," diverting an estimated 500 tons of organic material -- including food scraps, napkins, milk cartons and now plastic bags -- from area landfills each school year. "The goal of the program is to get all of San Francisco's 260 schools participating," according to Becky Wike, Environmental Education Coordinator for the City of San Francisco's Department of the Environment.

All lunchroom composting is carted and hauled to the Jepson Prairie Compost Facility, where it is converted into fertilizer for Bay Area farms, wineries, landscape companies and school garden programs. Schools are able to reduce their garbage fees by more than half in the process, and subtract from the six million pounds of garbage produced by the City each day. Students and teachers also bring lunchroom composting lessons into the classroom to broaden the program's impact.

Cereplast also recently partnered with Duni Corporation to develop a line of thermoformed food containers that offer consumers and businesses another environmentally-friendly alternative.
