MEMPHIS, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 13, 2006--Homewood Suites by Hilton, an upscale extended-stay hotel brand, announced today it has forged a relationship with the National Coalition for the Homeless to aid the charity's mission to end homelessness. The National Coalition for the Homeless is a non-profit organization, headquartered in Washington, D.C., that works to end homelessness by focusing on the areas of housing, economic and health-care justice, as well as civil and voting rights.

According to a 2005 survey by the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development, there are over 700,000 Americans homeless on any given night. The survey also found that approximately one in 400 Americans are without a home. Homewood Suites is doing its part to help fight homelessness through a multi-faceted partnership that will include a monetary donation, volunteer programs, awareness-building campaigns and outreach to local shelters by its more than 160 hotels.

"Our hotels have witnessed first hand -- through the nation's recent natural disasters -- that homelessness can truly affect anyone," said Jim Holthouser, senior vice president, Brand Management, Homewood Suites by Hilton. "Our brand's core attributes are based on creating a home-like feel. We have chosen to support the National Coalition for the Homeless because we feel everyone in America should have the opportunity to have a home."

Michael Stoops, acting executive director of the National Coalition for the Homeless, said he is excited about the relationship's possibilities. "We look forward to working with Homewood Suites by Hilton in efforts to help to end homelessness in the nearly 170 communities where they are located, together our two organizations and its employees can work together to address both the emergency and long-term needs of homeless people. This is a true private/public collaboration for addressing one of the pressing issues of our time. We believe that it is indeed possible to end homelessness in any city in America."

About National Coalition for the Homeless

Founded in 1984, the National Coalition for the Homeless (NCH) is a private, non-profit, national advocacy organization that exists to educate all levels of society in order to identify and put to an end the social and economic causes of homelessness. NCH is the nation's oldest and largest national homelessness advocacy organization, comprised of activists, service providers, and persons who are, or have been, homeless striving toward a single goal -- to end homelessness. It is the mission of NCH to create the systemic and attitudinal changes necessary to prevent and end homelessness, while concurrently working to increase the capacity of local supportive housing and service providers to better meet the urgent needs of those families and individuals now homeless in their communities.

NCH focuses its work on four policy areas: civil rights of those who are without homes, housing that is affordable to those with the lowest incomes, accessible/comprehensive health care and other needed support services, and livable incomes that make it possible to afford the basic necessities of life. The strategies we use to implement our mission are: litigation, lobbying, public education, policy analysis, community organizing, research and providing technical assistance.
