Announcing The Inaugural Run Walk Ride Pacesetter Awards

Celebrating the best in athletic event fundraising across North America

RYE, NY. - October 7, 2008 – Fundraising "thons" raise billions each year, but public recognition for the nonprofit professionals who produce them has been in short supply – until now.

Outstanding achievement in athletic event fundraising is the focus of a new competition organized by the Run Walk Ride Fundraising Council. The Run Walk Ride Pacesetter Awards will be presented at the council's annual conference in Dallas on March 5, 2009.

Entries are due by November 19. Program details can be found at www.rwrawards.com.

"It's high time that someone directed a spotlight on the creativity, strategic thinking and tactical excellence required to excel in athletic event fundraising,"said David Hessekiel, founder and president of the Run Walk Ride Fundraising Council.

Events conducted in 2008 can be entered in six competitive categories:

  • Best print advertising creative (sponsored by Rodale Sports Marketing & Events)
  • Best sponsorship activation
  • Best recruitment brochure
  • Best use of online media
  • Best integration of mission into an event
  • Best t-shirt design
In addition, national nonprofits will be asked to nominate one person for the Cash Sweat & Tears Award recognizing an outstanding volunteer participant. The winner will be given a trophy, a $500 contribution to the charity of their choice and a "recovery package" featuring footwear and apparel from New Balance Athletic Shoe, Inc. All nominees will be recognized in the Cash Sweat and Tears Hall of Fame on www.runwalkride.com.
