MEXICO CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 26, 2006--Exchanging Views:
Visions of Latin America in the Coleccion Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, a major exhibition of work from the 1950s through the present, is on view at the Museo del Palacio de Bellas Artes, Mexico City, from August 2 through October 22, 2006. The exhibition, drawn from the internationally acclaimed Coleccion Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, a program of the Fundacion Cisneros, comprises 148 works by 72 artists from across Latin America, with select examples by artists from the United States and Europe.

The Fundacion Cisneros was founded by Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, Gustavo Cisneros, and Ricardo Cisneros, in association with the Cisneros Group of Companies. The Caracas-based Fundacion initiates and supports a wide range of programs that aim to improve education for all Latin Americans and increase global awareness of Latin America's contributions to world culture.

Patricia Cisneros states, "We are delighted to be able to display abstract work from the CPPC among the examples of the great Mexican muralists at the Museo del Palacio de Bellas Artes. Together, these reveal the true breadth and depth of modern Latin American art."

Exchanging Views reveals the sophistication and diversity of modern and contemporary Latin American art through painting, sculpture, video, photography, installation art, and drawing. It offers a series of complementary displays; for example, a presentation of Geometric Abstraction from the 1930s through early sixties includes the Uruguayan School of the South, the Argentine Madi, the Concrete and Neo-Concrete movements of Brazil, and Venezuelan Kineticism. Other presentations display work dating from the late sixties through the 1970s, demonstrating a shift from geometric abstraction to a more organic style. Two galleries are devoted to the role of landscape in contemporary art, and two solo shows offer selections of work by Venezuelan artists Armando Reveron and Gego. Finally, the exhibition features art that addresses issues of identity, and a display that highlights the dialogue between contemporary artists and the geometric tradition.

Exchanging Views is organized by the Fundacion Cisneros in cooperation with the Museo del Palacio de Bellas Artes.

The distinguished Coleccion Patricia Phelps de Cisneros forms the basis for an array of initiatives including a dynamic lending program and ongoing educational projects for all ages. The award-winning website (coleccioncisneros.org) blends education, imagination, and creativity to encourage dynamic exploration of modern and contemporary Latin American art.
