Serious Software-Driven Tool for Tracking the Performance of CSR Projects and Strategic Partnerships

Today the social performance company Stakeholder Negotiation Services International launched 3PTracking™, a software-supported management tool designed to strengthen the face-to-face negotiations and long-term performance of strategic partnerships and projects in the field of sustainable development.

Two years ago SNSI Limited and the Australian project management software company eTrack Products Pty signed an agreement to build a unique piece of project management software. The tool is a serious attempt to reconcile the needs of many CSR and social and environmental performance managers to establish metrics for 'both' conventional and partnership-based projects, and to manage these as a single portfolio.

"We started out by taking the published findings of the acclaimed Business Partners for Development programme, which involved the World Bank Group, BP, Thames Water, Shell, Anglo American, the UK government, CARE International, Water Aid and others," said Michael Warner, Managing Director of SNSI Limited. "We then combined these results with our own experience as practitioners in brokering and monitoring a host of different types of community investment, environmental management and multi-stakeholder partnerships and projects. The product is 3PTracking™."

About 3PTracking™. The tool carries eight core capabilities:

  1. a cradle-to-grave information depository for capturing the outcomes of due diligence, project negotiations, agreements and performance monitoring.

  2. supports face-to-face negotiations, project design and budgeting, and the formulation of robust project or partnership agreements.

  3. tracks the performance of a partnership or project as a whole (ie tracks shared objectives) and in relation to individual partners' strategic interests, whether this be to deliver policy, achieve sustainable development outcomes, manage risks or secure financial returns.

  4. provides 'snap-shot' of which partners are winning and which losing, enabling managers to get projects back on track quickly, before costs spiral and an initiative collapses or relationships sour.

  5. differentiates between financial, monetised and in-kind non-financial costs and performance.

  6. calculates time-specified cost-benefit projections, both financial and qualitative.

  7. across a portfolio or cluster of projects, identifies the relative contribution made by each project to an overall strategy, thus informing future investment plans.

  8. controls the level of security and transparency of project management information within organisations, across partner organisations or among individual staff.
