Flora Fauna y Cultura de México, a civil organization who runs the Marine Turtle Protection and Preservation Program of the Riviera Maya (Central Coast of Quintana Roo), has just launched the media campaign called "Together for Preservation", supported by the eco-archaeological Park Xcaret, the Association of Hotels of the Riviera Maya, and the Environmental Direction of Solidaridad.

The campaign is aimed to provide elemental information about the different actions that the local population and visitors - national and foreign- can take to contribute to take care of and preserve these millenary creatures who come to our shores to nest.

The program "Together for Preservation" embraces the following strategies:

  • Printed Material.- Sponsored by Xcaret Park, this strategy consists of placing some informative prisms in the rooms of 43 hotels of the Riviera Maya located in the Marine Turtle nesting areas. Such materials, called TORTUTIPS, show the nine main protection behaviours that tourists must follow during the nesting and hatching season.

So far, 11 hotels of the Riviera Maya and Tulum have joined this preservation and protection effort: Mayan Resorts, Riviera Maya, Barceló Riviera Maya Beach Resorts, Hotel Dreams Tulum, Hotel Maya Tankah by Freedom Paradise, Hotel Kai-Kaana, Cabañas de Ana y José, Cabañas Tita Tulum, Cabañas Ecológicas Nueva Vida de Ramiro, Posada Margherita and Hotel Mezanine.

The printed campaign is also present as inserts in important magazines like Vive México, conocerlo es amarlo, and 307 Riviera Maya.

    Radio Campaign

  • The Quintana Roo System of Social Communication, through the station Riviera FM, produced 9 sensitizing spots for the local community, which can be listened to from August to November this year.

    TV Campaign

  • The TV show Encadena T.V. transmits informative spots about the preservation actions taken by the Marine Turtle Protection Program of the Riviera Maya, carried out by Flora, Fauna y Cultura de México along 75 miles of coastline.

  • The TV Channel Cool TV joins this diffusion effort broadcasting an informative spot of the TORTUTIPS for free in the hotels of the Riviera Maya, Cozumel and Isla Mujeres. The campaign will be broadcasted 4 months, starting August. Cool TV is transmitted in 9 out of every 10 hotels in the Mexican Caribbean, as well as in local homes with cable system.

Temporary exhibition of Marine Turtles in Xcaret's Coral Reef Aquarium

  • Xcaret Park offers a space for the diffusion of this campaign with its temporary marine turtles exhibition, receiving about 2 thousand visitors daily. This exhibition has been carried out for 10 years now, with the aim of widespreading the Marine Turtles Protection Activities in the turtle camps run by FFCM with the financial support of the park, as well as the Breed Marking Program with the living tag technique.

  • Internet Campaign:

Xcaret Park also supports this campaign through its website with a link for donations to the Marine Turtle Preservation and Protection Program of the Riviera Maya.
