HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 27, 2006--Attending high school, caring for an infant and earning an income are sometimes too overwhelming for teen parents. Just to survive, often the first thing eliminated is education -- which can also be most detrimental to future success.

Today, teen parents are getting the support they need to stay in school, thanks to a generous $5,000 donation from the NFL Alumni-Houston. The gift, made as part of the 2006 Houston Motherhood: A Lifetime Achievement Award Luncheon, chaired by Linda Messner, will go toward building an Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC) at Houston Can! Academy.

Houston Can! Academy provides a second chance at an education for at-risk youth. The ECDC aims to provide free childcare while the students attend classes and developmental learning for students' children. The goal is to open the center in the Fall 2006.

"Through the generosity of the NFL Alumni, our students and their families are getting a second opportunity to succeed in life. By helping us open an ECDC in Houston, the NFL Alumni are helping the entire community build stronger families and a stronger workforce," said Grant East, Founder and President Emeritus of Texans Can!

The annual Motherhood: A Lifetime Achievement Luncheon honors exceptional women in the Houston community who have also kept their privilege of being a mother their first priority. This year's event is scheduled for Wednesday, May 10, 2006, at The Houstonian Hotel.
