In addition to developing power management semiconductors making everyday products such as lighting and automobiles more energy efficient, International Rectifier pioneered the development of iMOTION(TM), an integrated motion control platform setting the stage for mass adoption of energy-saving motors throughout appliances.
In speaking about the formation of the index, NASDAQ executive vice president John Jacobs said, "This index will bring much needed attention, focus and definition to a sector that is already playing a lead role in addressing the global energy crisis." In association with leading research and publishing firm Clean Edge, NASDAQ formed the clean energy index to track the performance of companies engaged in the manufacturing, development, distribution, and installation of emerging clean-energy technologies. The new index trades on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbols CLEN (price return basis) and CLNX (total return basis).
In addition to CLEN and CLNX, International Rectifier is also among the companies included in the WilderHill Clean Energy Index and the Distributed Energy Stock Index.
