O-I Names Vice President of Sustainability

TOLEDO, Ohio-- Owens-Illinois, Inc. (NYSE: OI) today announced that Steven C. Hammond has been named to the newly created role of vice president, corporate sustainability.

In this role, Mr. Hammond's responsibility will be to provide leadership and better align the Company for strategy development and execution in the fields of environment, safety, health and product stewardship.

This role will have a powerful influence on O-I competitiveness, the image of glass and the competitive position of the glass industry as a whole," said Steve McCracken, O-I Chairman and CEO. "In essence, Steve will lead our corporate efforts in the health and well-being dimensions of our products, our people and our planet."

Currently, Mr. Hammond serves as vice president of regional operations, Europe, for the Western region, including France, Spain, the United Kingdom, Holland and Germany. He began his career with United Glass, based in the United Kingdom, in 1978 and has served in various manufacturing management assignments prior to becoming managing director of United Glass in 1999. In 2004, Mr. Hammond was named managing director of the United Kingdom and Holland before being named to his current position in 2005.
