LOS GATOS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 5, 2007--Akeena Solar, Inc. (OTCBB:AKNS), a leading designer and installer of solar power systems, is sponsoring a course for building and electrical inspectors in the Bay Area. The course is taught by John Wiles, a nationally recognized expert on safe and code-compliant solar electric systems. Building and electrical inspectors can receive credit educational unit credits for attending this course on February 6, 2007.

"The new California Solar Initiative makes solar power systems an attractive option for commercial and residential buildings," said Barry Cinnamon, chief executive officer of Akeena Solar. "However, solar power systems require basic and unique knowledge of code compliance issues. Course Details

This workshop provides an intensive overview of small-scale solar power generation, and the National Electrical Code (NEC) regulations for installation and safe operation of solar power systems. The course is being offered from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM on February 6 at Dr Martin Luther King Library in San Jose. The cost of the course is $45 and includes lunch and refreshments. About John Wiles

John Wiles is a Program Manager at the Southwest Technology Development Institute at New Mexico State University. He assists the photovoltaic (PV) industry, electrical contractors, electrical inspectors, and purchasing agencies in understanding the PV requirements of the NEC. Mr. Wiles serves as Secretary for an NFPA appointed Task Group involved with Article 690 of the NEC. He drafted the text for Article 690 in the 2002 NEC Handbook. His fieldwork involves balance of systems design for PV systems, acceptance testing of PV systems, test and evaluation of PV components, and the design and installation of data acquisition systems.
