Bomb Squads Need Cell Phone Jamming Equipment Immediately; Police and Public in Danger Unnecessarily Says CellAntenna Corp.

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 5, 2006--CellAntenna Corporation is once again calling for the Department of Homeland Security and the FCC to immediately allow local and state law enforcement bomb squads to purchase and use cell phone jamming equipment legally. At issue is the Communications Act passed in 1934 that allows only the Federal government and its agencies to use radio frequency jammers.

Recent events in London, England indicated that terrorists were going to use cell phones as the triggering device to detonate liquid explosives on airplanes. As well, law enforcement officials around the country are concerned that prepaid cell phones purchased in great numbers could be used as triggers for bombs. The heightened state of alert only verifies that the law prohibiting the use of RF jamming equipment by local law enforcement needs to be immediately repealed to protect the public.

The cell phone is the number one triggering device used by terrorists around the world. They can be easily modified to trigger a bomb to explode. Even if a bomb is found, current law prohibits First Responders to deploy jamming equipment to stop the IED from blowing up. They are forced to wait for the Federal Government to take action.

This delay can lead to deadly consequences, especially in regions of the country where no properly equipped federal authorities are in the vicinity.

"We must give our First Responders the weapons they need in order to fight this war on terrorism," stated Howard Melamed, CEO of CellAntenna Corporation. "It is senseless to stop local law enforcement bomb disposal units from using equipment that can save lives."

CellAntenna Corporation has issued a constitutional challenge in US District Court in Miami, Florida to the 1934 Communications Act.
The court has been asked to rule that the 2002 Homeland Security Act allows First Responders to acquire and use radio frequency jamming equipment.
