Microtune Meets RoHS 'Green' Compliance, Supporting Worldwide Environmental and Health Standards

PLANO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 7, 2006--Microtune(R) Inc. (Nasdaq:TUNE), the Tuner Company, announced today that it offers silicon tuners and amplifiers that are in full compliance with the European Union's (EU) Directive for the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS). Microtune began its 'green' initiative more than two years ago and has worked closely with its subcontractors to assure compliance with industry regulations that promote a cleaner and healthier environment.

The RoHS directive (2002/95/EC) mandates that, effective July 1, 2006, six hazardous substances (lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls or polybrominated diphenyl ethers) must be removed from all electrical and electronic equipment sold into the EU. Although RoHS legislation is targeted for products sent to Europe, Microtune tuners shipped to the U.S. and other parts of the world meet the same environmental standards.

"Our tuner products are deployed in a wide range of consumer products, and as a result, we took an early and pro-active position to aggressively support 'green' specifications," said Albert Taddiken, Microtune's Chief Operating Officer. "Our plan was to provide customers a smooth migration path to RoHS standards, ensuring product quality, supply and flexibility during their transition."

Microtune, inventor of the single-chip silicon TV tuner, provides radio frequency silicon and systems products for the consumer electronics and automotive electronics markets. Its semiconductor portfolio spans a variety of miniature tuners, from very high-performance 1-GHz analog/digital tuners to ultra low-power digital tuners for handheld TV devices. Its tuners are designed to support worldwide reception standards and to function as key components in delivering TV signals to popular consumer electronics devices, including digital televisions, multi-tuner set-top boxes, multimedia entertainment computers, and voice-enabled cable modems and mobile TV phones.
