Groups Launch Sudan Mutual Fund Screening Tool - Approx. 57 Million U.S. Households Own Mutual Funds

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 25, 2006--The Sudan Divestment Task Force and Invested Interests have created the first online tool allowing individuals to screen their mutual funds for investments in companies supporting the Sudanese government and its genocidal policies in the country's Darfur region. Although many companies operating in Sudan do substantial good, experts agree that certain "offending" companies are clearly contributing to the government's genocidal capacity while imparting minimal benefit to those outside government circles. By selectively targeting these "offending" companies, investors can carry out socially responsible investing while minimizing unintended harms to Sudanese civilians.

The Sudan Screening Tool (http://www.sudandivestment.org/screener.asp) generates a report detailing the names, dollar value, and percent of total mutual fund assets invested in offending companies. Previous Sudan divestment data has only been available to large institutions and targeted all companies with a connection to Sudan. In contrast, the Sudan Screening Tool only identifies offending companies and allows any mutual fund investor to actively participate in Sudan divestment.

Sudan Screening Tool data is collected from public and governmental databases, corporate interviews, and foreign policy experts and routinely updated by the Task Force and Invested Interests.

To discuss the Sudan Screening Tool and other resources available for Sudan divestment, the Sudan Divestment Task Force will be presenting a web conference for investors and financial professionals on September 27th, 2006 from 1:00p.m. - 2:00p.m. EDT.
