PHILADELPHIA, PA, December 18, 2006 - On December 14th, Sergeant Pisey Tan opened the doors to his brand new donated home. An open house was held from 3:00 "“ 5:00 pm on site with the dedication ceremony occurring at 3:30 pm. The momentous unveiling to Pisey and his family with its unique surprises was attended by the many supporters, contributors and donors of the project

While serving in the United States Army, Sergeant Tan, who is from North Philadelphia, was deployed twice to Iraq. During his second deployment with the 3rd Battalion, 69th Armored Regiment, Pisey's vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device. The injuries suffered by Pisey forced the amputation of both of his legs. He continues to undergo intense physical rehabilitation at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C.

Through Homes For Our Troops ( www.homesforourtroops.org), a non-profit organization committed to helping our service men and women who have selflessly given to our country, money was raised for building material and professional labor. Several donors also stepped up to the plate to donate goods for the home. USA Cares provided a four piece dinner wear set of Hartstone Pottery’s All American line as well as a few serving dishes of the USA Cares At Home line, linens, and $2500 in Sears gift cards for other necessities.

Sears Holdings and USA Cares are teaming up this holiday season to make the holidays a little brighter for military families. As part of this partnership, the retailer is spearheading a charitable initiative on its holiday website, readysetholiday.com. The site offers Mom solutions for all her holiday needs and provides an opportunity to share in the joy of giving while touching the lives of military families facing hardship.

"Readysetholiday.com features a wish list that we built based on the needs of the families we serve. The items can be purchased and shipped directly to USA Cares," Roger Stradley, USA Cares Operations Director, said. Once all of the purchases are received at our offices in Radcliff, Ky,, they'll be sorted and sent to areas where they'll do the most good."

Customers will be able to purchase a gift online for military families on readysetholiday.com through December 25. Sears Holdings has kicked off the effort with an initial donation of $10,000 in gift cards.
