SAN FRANCISCO, CA - November 7, 2007 - Green Festivals, a joint project of Global Exchange and Co-op America will celebrate its sixth year in San Francisco. The event will take place November 9th - 11th, 2007, at the San Francisco Concourse Exhibition Center.
The event's unprecedented program will feature a speaker line-up that redefines and expands the platform to reach the growing and diversifying audience of the green movement.
Kicking off the event with a true gift to the Green Festival audience will be an evening with Deepak Chopra, the thought leader in holistic awareness, wellness and spirituality. Chopra will be speaking on the "Environment as the Extended Body," exploring the connection of each human being's physical self to the environment. Chopra will go on to explain this exploration as an important leverage for change and a shared platform for understanding environmental issues beyond any political context.
San Francisco Green Festival will also feature first-time notable guests Paul Hawken, arguably the most respected and well-known name in environmental sustainability around the globe and Gary Zukav, bestselling author and co-founder of the Seat of the Soul institute. Also, Fritjof Capra physicist, philosopher, and internationally famed author; and Lawrence Lessig, "the most important thinker on intellectual property in the Internet era" ("The New Yorker"); and Lynne Twist, award-winning global activist, fundraiser and author of the bestselling Soul of Money will be among the 15o great minds to be included in the speaker line-up.
"Since 2002, the Green Festival has hosted a veritable who's who in the emerging social enterprise, sustainability and environmental thought leadership," explains Karri Winn, Green Festivals Programming Director. "As its reputation for excellence and attentive audiences has grown, so too has the capacity of the event to draw world class speakers while simultaneously expanding the sustainability framework."
At Green Festival San Francisco, over 400 green businesses, 150 speakers, dozens of community groups and an expected 35,000 Bay Area residents will come together to explore and celebrate what's working in our communities - for people, for businesses and for the environment. Over the course of three days, attendees will check out what's on the horizon for renewable energy, socially responsible investing, eco-fashions, green building, eco-friendly travel, organic foods, sustainable business and much more.
From 2002's launch event audience of 6,000 to an anticipated 2007 combined attendance of 100,000, the Green Festivals have been consistently and authentically providing content and information for consumers on every aspect of green living.
"The Green Festival has something for everyone," says Global Exchange's Co-Founder Kevin Danaher. "When we say green, we mean environmental and community health, social and economic justice, fair trade and living wages. You'll see people from every community leading the way to a greener, healthier future.
Green Festival is the perfect place to build cultural bridges, save the planet, grow the green economy and begin healthier, greener ways of living.
