VSM Sewing Donates over 4,000 Sewing Machines to Missionary Group

CLEVELAND--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 24, 2006--VSM Sewing Inc., 31000 Viking Parkway, Westlake, Ohio, is donating over 4,000 new sewing machines to a missionary organization that services, educates and works with the indigent people of the West Indies.
The local organization has partnered with Missionary Flights International (MFI), Fort Pierce, Fla., to deliver the machines to missionary families living in Haiti, the Dominican Republic and possibly through other relief organizations in other third- world countries.
"We know this donation will bring to these poverty-stricken communities a sense of hope and self-sufficiency," says Charlie Bayer, president and CEO of VSM Sewing.
Richard Snook, president of MFI, says when word of the donation got out, within two hours 800 of the machines were spoken for.
Missionary Flights International (MFI) is a non-profit carrier service transporting missionary families, medical teams, work teams, cargo, medical supplies and mail to and from Haiti, the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas.
The more than 4,000 Husqvarna Viking, Pfaff and White sewing machines offer the people of these poor countries the opportunity to sew for a living as well as for their families. The donation represents, to some, their first real glimpse of what so many of us take for granted; productivity and 21st century innovation.
Some of the machines will leave Florida by MFI airplanes beginning October 24th and be delivered to Haiti and the Dominican Republic. MFI will work with other non-profit organizations to distribute the rest of the machines to other third world countries. The 700 missionary families working throughout the region will teach sewing skills using donated fabric, thread and notions; MFI sustains its missions with 100 percent donations.
